Border Guard Bangladesh on Saturday launched its 64 Ukhiya Battalion amid rising tension between Myanmar’s Junta and Arakan Army along the Bangladesh border.

Home adviser retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the new Battalion through raising the flag at an event held at the BGB 34 Battalion in Cox’s Bazar.

BGB also launched three other units at the same event like Station Headquarters and Guard Police Battalion in Dhaka Dog Squad K-9 unit and Training Centre in Gazipur.

‘The sensitivity along the Bangladesh Myanmar border has increased many times over the ongoing internal conflict in Mymanmar. Establishing a battalion along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border is a timely demand considering the ongoing situation,’ said home adviser Jahangir addressing at the flag raising event held in Cox’s Bazar’s BGB 34 Battalion ground.

He hoped that the Ukhiya Battalion would ensure flawless security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, and resist illegal intrusion, drugs, human trafficking, and Rohingyas’ intrusion.
