Army Raid on UPDF Hideout in Lakshmichhari: Red Passports, Extortion Money and Equipment Seized

Khagrachhari, Bangladesh — In a special operation, the Bangladesh Army’s 24 Artillery Brigade and Lakshmichhari Zone under Guimara Region have uncovered a secret hideout of the armed separatist group, United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), led by Prasit Bikash Khisa. During the raid, troops recovered red passports, a large sum of extortion money, and various equipment.
The operation was carried out early Wednesday morning (August 20) at Dewanpara area under Barmachhari Union of Lakshmichhari upazila, based on secret intelligence.

According to sources, the terrorists fled upon sensing the presence of the patrol team led by Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Tajul Islam.
A subsequent search of the hideout resulted in the recovery of 5 mobile phones, 2 red (special) passports, 12 SIM cards, 3 extra batteries, 1 ATM card, 2 receipts of extortion collection, 1 cooking stove, 1 telephone set, and Tk 929,510 in cash.

Lt. Col. Md. Tajul Islam stated that the operation was part of regular drives to suppress terrorist activities in Lakshmichhari and to ensure public safety. He added that such operations will continue in the future for the protection of local residents.
It is worth noting that UPDF activities in Lakshmichhari have long caused suffering for local people. Army operations of this nature are seen as an important step toward curbing illegal activities and ensuring security in the hill tracts.
